09/29/06 - Alchem Laboratories awarded two long term contracts by the National Cancer Institute
Alachua, Florida, September 29, 2006 - Alchem Laboratories Corporation (www.alchem.com) announced that it has been awarded two long term (five years with possibility of extension to seven years) research and development contracts by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) valued at approximately $7,650,000 for five years and $11,000,000 for seven years. One of the contracts involves the synthesis of small molecules, and the other one the manufacturing of bulk chemicals and drugs required for preclinical and clinical studies; these compounds will be experimented by the NCI in preclinical studies and in clinical experiments on human subjects for the treatment of cancer "We are pleased to receive these contracts as they consolidate us as one of the main providers for the Government and reconfirm the reliability and quality of our work by one of the most prestigious institutes of the National Institutes of Health. The contracts also impart long-term stability to our organization in the conditions in which contract research and development is becoming more and more competitive” said Emil Pop, Ph.D., founder, president and CEO of Alchem Laboratories, principal investigator of the contract. Alchem Laboratories, a custom research and manufacturing organization established in 1996 conducts research and development work since 1998, when it started its operation at its present site in Alachua. The company which currently employs some 20 staff members, more than half of which are Ph.D. level chemists, has successfully accomplished numerous research and development contracts for a variety of pharmaceutical companies from the United States, France, Israel and Japan.   A five-year contract with the NCI, which has been awarded in 2001 is about to expire. “The work of our Synthetic Chemistry and Quality Control departments, directors Dr. Ralf Mueller and Dr. Jing Yang, respectively, and of the Quality Assurance group, director Raymond Malloy M.S., has been outstanding. Principal research scientists Drs. Sergiy Denisenko and Vladimir Rudchenko, group leader Dr. Otto Geoffroy, as well as research scientist Mrs. Terezia Mendel, had an important contribution to the successful accomplishment of this contract and the acquiring of the new ones. Dedicated work of other staff members including Judy Saxon, controller, Charles Alligood, maintenance manager has been remarkable. As a result of these awards, the company will continue to grow” added Dr. Pop.

01/12/06 - Alchem Laboratories co-authors chemistry article in cooperation with Esperion Therapeutics, A Division of Pfizer Global Research & Development
Alachua, Florida, January 12, 2006 – The article entitled “Influence of Various Central Moieties on the Hypolipidemic Properties of Long Hydrocarbon Chain Diols and Diacids,” coauthored by scientists of Esperion Therapeutics and Alchem Laboratories, appeared in the first 2006 issue of the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry (J. Med. Chem. 2006, 49, 334-348). This work is part of a larger effort dealing with the study of the lipid regulating properties of novel compounds, designed and synthesized as potential agents in the treatment of metabolic diseases. The results have been published in several articles.

07/06/05 - Alchem Laboratories present at 5th Retrometabolism Based Drug Design and Targeting Conference
Alachua, Florida, July 6, 2005 – Alchem Laboratories was a gold-level sponsor of the 5th Retrometabolism Based Drug Design and Targeting Conference held from May 8-11, 2005, in Hakone, Japan. Dr. Emil Pop, President & CEO of Alchem Laboratories, a member of the International Advisory Board, has also served as chair for one of the podium sessions. In addition, Alchem Laboratories presented a poster in collaboration with Esperion Therapeutics, a Division of Pfizer Global Research and Development.

05/16/05 - Chemists of Alchem Laboratories included in publication and patents by NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Alachua, Florida, May 16, 2005 – Chemists of Alchem Laboratories were included as authors in a publication and two patents of NPS Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Salt Lake City, UT. The title of the publication in Bioorg. Med. Chem. Lett. 2005, 15, 2537-2540 was “Design, new synthesis, and calcilytic activity of substituted 3H-pyrimidin-4-ones” and the patents were titled “Methods for Preparing 2,3,5,6-Substituted 3H-Pyrimidin-4-ones” (WO 2004/092121) and “Pyrimidinone Compounds as Calcilytics” (WO 2004/092120).

12/31/04 - Alchem Laboratories publishes series of articles on research conducted in its laboratories
Alachua, Florida, December 2004 – Alchem Laboratories has recently published in collaboration with Esperion Therapeutics, a Division of Pfizer Global Research & Development, a series of articles in prestigious journals. The articles are titled “Long Hydrocarbon Chain Ether Diols and Ether Diacids That Favorably Alter Lipid Disorders in Vivo” (J. Med. Chem. 2004, 47, 5183-5197), “Long Hydrocarbon Chain Keto Diols and Diacids that Favorably Alter Lipid Disorders in Vivo” (J. Med. Chem. 2004, 47, 6082-6099), and “Kilogram-Scale Synthesis of bis(6-Hydroxy-5,5-dimethylhexyl)ether (ESP24232), A Novel Lipid Lowering Agent” (Org. Prep. Proced. Int. 2004, 36, 587-596).

Alachua, Florida, June 29, 2004 - Emil Pop authored two chapters, titled "The Chemical Constituents of Cannabis Sativa and the Endocannabinoid System" (with V. Di Marzo) and “Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry of THC” in “Cannabinoids”, a book edited by Vincenzo Di Marzo, recently published by Kluwer Academic/Plenum Publishers.

06/17/04 - Alchem Laboratories awarded a contract by The Scripps Research Institute
Alachua, Florida, June 17, 2004 - Alchem Laboratories Corporation announced that it has been awarded a contract by The Scripps Research Institute. The contract work involves the synthesis of novel compounds with potential therapeutic application. "We are very excited to receive this contract from such a prestigious institution, and we hope that it represents only the beginning of a fruitful collaboration," said Emil Pop, Ph.D., founder, president and chief executive officer of Alchem Laboratories. A custom research and manufacturing organization established in 1996, Alchem Laboratories supports various stages of the drug discovery process by conducting research and development work for a number of pharmaceutical companies and for the National Cancer Institute. Currently Alchem Laboratories employs over 20 staff members, some half of them being Ph.D. level chemists. The Scripps Research Institute, one of the largest, private, nonprofit research organizations in the United States, has recently extended its operations to South Florida and will build a large research center in Palm Beach County.

11/21/02 - Dr. Emil Pop becomes Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists
Alachua, Florida, November 21, 2002 - Dr. Emil Pop, Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alchem Laboratories Corporation has been conferred the honor of Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS). AAPS, the most prestigious society for pharmaceutical scientists that numbers some 12,000 members from 40 countries all over the world, designated 10 Fellows at its recent annual Conference and Exposition held in Toronto, Canada on November 10-14. The primary criterion for selection of AAPS Fellows is professional competence reflected through scholarly and research contributions to pharmaceutical sciences such as original articles, scientific presentations and/or patents.
Emil Pop was recognized as a distinguished contributor and acknowledged leader in the advancement of the pharmaceutical sciences. The last two decades of his career have been dedicated entirely to pharmaceutical sciences. He has been involved mainly with the research and development of prodrugs and chemical delivery systems and with the study of synthetic nonpsychotropic cannabinoids. He considers the study, which contributed to diversification and a better understanding of this family of compounds with numerous potential medical applications, to have been quite exciting and rewarding. Dr. Pop is convinced that based on these compounds, the future will provide novel therapeutics for treatment of a range of acute and slowly developing neurological disorders including traumatic brain injury, stroke, pain and multiple sclerosis.

In 1997, Dr. Pop founded Alchem Laboratories Corporation, a continuously expanding custom research and development organization. The company, located in Alachua and employing some 25 personnel, mainly highly qualified research chemists, has been represented in the AAPS Exposition.

03/27/02 - Alchem Laboratories opens new administrative offices
Alachua, Florida, March 27, 2002 - Alchem Laboratories completed the expansion of its Alachua facilty with the addition of approximately 1,600 square feet to be used as administrative offices. The former office space, approximately 1000 square feet, is being converted to a scale-up laboratory.

12/02/01 - Alchem Laboratories begins expansion of its Alachua facility
Alachua, Florida, December 2, 2001 - Alchem Laboratories Corporation announced that it has begun an expansion to its Alachua, Florida facility.  The addition to the existing building will add approximately 1,600 square feet to be used as office space.  This addition will allow current office space to be converted to additional laboratory areas.

09/04/01 - Alchem Laboratories awarded a 5-year contract by the National Cancer Institute
Alachua, Florida, September 4, 2001 - Alchem Laboratories Corporation announced that it has been awarded a 5-year contract by the National Cancer Institute valued at approximately $3.5 million. Contract work involves the synthesis of bulk chemicals and drugs for the treatment of cancer required for preclinical and clinical studies. "We are pleased to receive this contract as it represents recognition of the reliability and quality of our work by one of the most prestigious institutes of the National Institutes of Health," said Emil Pop, Ph.D., founder, president and CEO of Alchem Laboratories, Principal Investigator of the contract. "This contract also imparts long-term stability to our organization" added Ed Woo, Ph.D., Director of Chemistry, Principal Assistant of the contract. Alchem Laboratories, a custom research and manufacturing organization established in 1996 conducts research and development work for a variety of pharmaceutical and chemical companies from the United States, UK, Israel and Japan. Since 1998, when it started its operation at its present site in Alachua, the company has been growing rapidly, currently employing over 20 staff members, more than half of them being Ph.D. level chemists.
